So it wasn't my idea, but I want everyone in NYC to do this... The plan for tonight in Manhattan is to go as far south as we can and find a locally owned restaurant to eat dinner and then go to a locally owned bar.

This is one of the best places in Hell's Kitchen, without a doubt. The bread products they make are out of this world. It is the only place in HK that has such fresh bread. They also make great sandwiches and sweets. I recommend their grilled cheese.

AllCar definitely was the cheapest option, but there were tons of fine print that made the experience not that enjoyable. After taking a vehicle up to Vermont for the weekend, I recommend people rent from somewhere else. It started with a super in-efficient office. It took me nearly an hour to get the vehicle even though I booked online. It wasn't as though they were busy either... there were only two people in front of me. Right as you sign everything, you find out the "full coverage" policy has a $750 deductible, which means if anything minor happens to the vehicle, you are paying a big chunk of change. The vehicle itself was not nice looking. It had been in an accident and the front bumper was bolted back on with metal screws. The inside was dirty and needed to be cleaned. During the trip, the left-rear tire began deflating, and since we were on a long drive, we wanted to fix the problem rather than put a spare on... we found out that the included road-side assistance didn't actually include any problems with the tires. Additionally, AllCar was closed on the weekend and that meant they couldn't approve any road-side assistance calls. Other than the tire, the car did drive well and the gas mileage was good. At the end of the day, I realized AllCar is a rent-a-wreck company, and that isn't what I wanted. Next time, I will go with one of the bigger named companies.

Duet's might be the most full service karaoke that I have ever been. The rooms are comfortable and have a little phone when you want to call a server. The song selection is big and they make sure to keep in updated. Most of the rooms have no windows and definitely do not have clocks... it is easy to get lost for hours in there! I think it is 7 bucks per person per hour, which is a bit more than smaller places, but I have always had fun there.

Grom is some of the best gelato in NYC. The only negative part of this location is that the shop is not well set up and they usually don't have enough people working, so lines are long. That means you have to stand there for a long time. It is still worth it though because the gelato is something to shake a stick at.

This is a great place in Juba. I lived here for the better part of a year while I was working in South Sudan. The folks there are great and the restaurant/bar is always trying to make it nice to be there. They have apartment-style rooms and Kenya tents. It is a bit out of the center of Juba, but I think that is a good thing. I highly recommend the place.

Nespresso knows how to treat their customers right. Once you are part of the club and show up to get more pods, they offer you a free cup of coffee and talk you through your coffee selection. I love it there. Also, they recycle the Nespresso pods. It makes me feel much better about having a Nespresso machine.

This is a real winner for a NYC summer day. There is enough space for absolutely everyone. On your first visit on a Saturday be sure to walk through each of the areas... there is a hipster corner, a yuppie corner and a crazy-carnival-folk corner. You can find whatever you want and chances are you will be able to meet some people and have a good time.
