Ten days of pop-up art pavilions, interactive exhibitions, performances,
and special events in Ann Arbor!

POP·X is an annual ten-day festival presented by the Ann Arbor Art Center.

Join us for the inaugural festival, Oct. 15 to Oct. 24., where nine beautiful, 10' by 10' pavilions will be grouped in Liberty Plaza and each will house a themed art exhibition created by an artist or collaboration of artists.

Visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to interact with these exhibitions, attend lectures and pop-up picnics, see special performances, and enjoy Ann Arbor like never before.

POP-X is not an art fair nor primarily a sale of art, although visitors will be able to purchase select pieces of art work from the exhibitions. The pavilions will be independently for sale as well, serving as beautiful yard installations for work or play!

VISIT http://www.annarborartcenter.org/pop-x/ for details about the pavilions, artists and for the full schedule of events! and join the Facebook event http://ow.ly/SmADI where we will be talking about the artists, the programs and the pavilions!

Classes will cover a broad range of issues relating to the figure, including drawing from observation and memory. Students will work from the human figure with the intention of further developing their own voice through their use of composition. Group discussions and demonstrations will be given on a weekly basis along with tailored individual instruction. This class is a great way for students with previous experience drawing the figure to take a next step.

A workshop for visual storytellers! How do you design a character whose inner life is telegraphed on first sight? How do you amplify (or betray) that first impression through body language and facial expression? How do you develop backstory and personality in your characters so they might take on a life of their own?

Join cartoonist Jerzy Drozd (The Warren Commission Report, Boulder and Fleet) for a series of creative games that will lead you to creating your own cast of characters. After developing them on paper, you'll digitize your work and use the state-of-the-art illustration software, Manga Studio, to refine your designs and build some stories featuring your new characters.

Learn to consciously employ the concepts that are the basis of all design and art through simple yet structured mixed-media projects that focus artists on the visual language of line, shape, value, texture and color. With the skillful use of compositional arrangement, positive and negative space, repetition and variety, one can create a sense of unity and drama?and discover a personal style and vision. This is the college-level course that many creative majors take upon starting their academic journey. Experienced artists can benefit from this class as well as absolute beginners. Bring graphite pencils and a sketchbook to the first class meeting; a detailed materials list will be distributed that day.
