Founder of BIGTIME Grain Company, Chad Bourquin grew up on a farm in western Kansas just outside a little town called Colby. Chad and his brother Bret were around country-western music their entire upbringing. Their grandfather shared the stage at one point with the Charlie Daniels Band performing "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" on the fiddle. After years of pursuing a rock music career, Chad's roots caught up with him. He just kept writing songs that didn't sound rock anymore. Chad woke up one morning and the light bulb flickered enough to head to the basement and play all those songs with one thought, "What if these were country songs?." Wouldn't you know it? They were, but don't be confused. There is plenty rock in them there boots to keep your foot stomping way after BigTime Grain Co. has left the building.

After finally succumbing to the shift back to where it started, Chad was fortunate enough to have four guys of amazing talent say yes. Chad was given the nickname big-time years ago by a former boss when he would do something correct and it just kind of stuck. Years later, BigTime Grain Co. was formed with a BigTime agenda to scatter words and phrases like seeds thru fields of hungry listeners.

Mobile Commerce: What It Is And Why You Want It.
By Jessica Daniels
November 29, 2012

Phrases like ecommerce and mcommerce may fill your brain with a phrase like “huh?,” but they certainly don’t have to. Not only can you fully comprehend what ecommerce and mcommerce mean, you can use them to give your business an overall boost, fortify customer loyalty and become a participating player in the most explosive trend going.

But first, the definitions. Ecommerce simply refers to electronic commerce, or folks buying stuff over the internet. Mcommerce is its advanced cousin, mobile commerce, which allows consumers to engage in ecommerce anytime, anywhere and with any company that lets them.

Why should you let them? Statistics from DC Financial Insights, CMO Council, Microsoft, and eDigitalResearch and Portaltech Reply tell the tale.

Mobile Commerce by the Numbers

80 – percentage of consumers who shop on their smartphones
34 – percentage of shoppers who purchased something on their mobile phones in 2012, up from the previous year’s 19 percent
64 –percentage of smartphone owners who use their smartphone to shop online
2014 – year when mobile internet use is expected to exceed desktop internet use
54 – percentage of consumers in the U.S. and Canada that said they would ditch a brand they’ve been loyal to if the brand didn’t offer them relevant or tailor-made offers and content (Ouch!)

So get up and get mobile! Although going mobile can bring huge results, entering the mobile commerce arena does not have to be a huge undertaking. Three easy steps can get you started.

Make sure your business is mobile happy. Even if you don’t sell anything online, a mobile application can dramatically increase customer engagement. Many companies have seen their sales jump once they deploy a mobile application.

Make sure it works across all major platforms. Mobile apps may be hot, but they can go cold in a hurry if they are not compatible with the most popular mobile platforms out there. Yes, that means the hugely popular iPhone and its Apple pals, but it also includes Android and a HTML5 version for other mobile devices.

Kick off your first mobile super-duper special. Once all is up and running, you may as well put it into action. The National Retail Federation says the biggest incentive guiding shoppers for 2012 are special offers. Discounts, sales, contests, free bubble wrap! Come up with something your clients and customers will love and watch them flock to contact you.
