It is well known that ultraviolet light increases the risk of skin cancer. It is becoming clearer that developing skin cancer on certain body locations results in higher risk of cancer spread and serious consequences. Dr. Chrysalyne Schmults and her colleagues at Brigham and Women's Hospital show in a recent study that squamous cell carcinoma of the lip poses a high risk for metastasis. You can read more about this on our most recent blog: https://madermatology.com/dont-forget-your-lips/

Gray hair means many things to many people. To some it is a sign of distinguishment; to others it is a reminder of impending old age. One thing that most people agree on is that it tends to be permanent. There is new research challenging the notion that gray hair is inevitable. See Dr. Vlad Ratushny's most recent blog on this topic: http://madermatology.com/forever-gray/

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the causative agent of warts. Fortunately, there exist effective vaccines to prevent infection with the strains of HPV most commonly associated with genital warts and cervical cancer. The focus of vaccination efforts has been on young women given the primary public health goal of the vaccine to prevent cervical cancer. There is recent evidence that a large proportion of men are carriers of HPV. See our website blog which discusses the implications of these new findings: http://madermatology.com/hpv-in-men/
