I've passed by this place before and decided to go in for date night. We're always looking for new hidden places to try. The restaurant has a great family-feel. There's not a lot of seating, so it's really personal. The portions are so big and so good!! We had the whiting (fish) and pork chops. Both were excellent! Mac & cheese, cornbread, lima beans (vegetarians: it tasted like these were cooked with meat, so you should maybe avoid), cobbler, and apple pie-- all amazing! It's not a fancy place, but more of a place you should check out for a casual lunch or dinner. I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a non-touristy spot! (Btw: We were there for a late lunch Friday and it was $13.50 per plate-- well worth it!)

WOW! In Charleston looking for some great soul food, and look what I found. Martha's gave me samples of all the food that ordered and I gave them all my money (lol) because I was sold then. If in the area, please stop by and get some great food and some real southern hospitality. See you next time when I come back, and I was told that I will be back....... From Maryland !

Amazing food! My daughter was kept eating and wouldn't want to leave the place~ ^^ A suggestion, may consider changing the foam plates, which they are serving food with, to paper plates. I noticed that several spots on the plate have been melted because of hot oil...

My experience was not that great. The collards were to salty and to sweet. The chicken was greasy as well as the pork chops. I would say the best thing I had was the mac and cheese and that's not saying too much. Overall the folks were friendly and the service was ok but the food was just not that good I'm sorry to say. I really wanted to have a great food experience, but unfortunately I did not. Can't recommend..sorry!

Best soul food in Charleston! Go on a Sunday when they make extra sides to choose from. (And btw someone said it was greasy...yea, it's fried)

Best fried chicken, cooked to order. Not greasy. Peppery (not overly cheesy) mac & cheese. Save room for peach cobbler, which is not overly sweet. Hole-in-the-wall spot with friendly service...waiter let us try out all the sides. Out of the way, but worth it. Also, check out Edmund's Oast across the street.
