This is a review for the gunsmith located behind Spring Guns and Ammo off of Spring Cypress Rd. Although I have no problems with Spring Guns and Ammo itself, I highly recommend NOT utilizing their gunsmith. Further, the review below is a little lengthy, but worth the read if you want to know the reasons. On 1 September, 2015, I brought in a Remington 870 shotgun and a M&P shield pistol to the gunsmith to work on. For the pistol, I had him adjust my rear sight, which he did with no problems. For the shotgun, I brought it in because I didn’t properly re-assemble it after disassembly at my home. After putting it together incorrectly, I cycled the action several times and tried to load rounds into the chamber; I realized I put it together incorrectly, and I fixed it. After realizing my mistake, I was concerned that I may have damaged some of the internal components. I explained my mistake and my concerns for internal damage to an employee of the gunsmith, and I requested a full inspection of all the internal parts of the shotgun. The employee at the desk told me I would be charged $75 for a visual inspection of all internal components of the shotgun, a functions check, and a live fire test at the range; the employee explained that the rear sight adjustment for my pistol would be no charge since it would only take a moment to fix. On 2, September, 2015, I went back to the gunsmith to pick up my weapons. I asked the same employee if the gunsmith had taken my shotgun apart to visually inspect all the components as I requested. She said, “I just asked him (the gunsmith) that question, and he said no”. The employee went on to say, “a functions check had been performed and a live fire test was conducted at the range; everything worked fine and there is no damage to your shotgun”. This isn’t necessarily true. Although my shotgun may be fine as the employee stated, there may be some internal damage that would still allow my shotgun to fire. This is why I wanted to pay a “professional gunsmith” to look at it to make sure all of the internal components were in good order. I have a lot of experience with firearms (not 870s), and I know this for a fact. Either the employee didn’t explain exactly what I wanted to the gunsmith, or the gunsmith took the lazy route; I’m not sure which. Either way, the work wasn’t done correctly. I complained to the employee about about paying such a high price for performing a functions check and putting a few rounds through it at the range. She explained, “the pricing was $35 for the service on shotgun and $35 for the pistol”. Although this is what my receipt reflects, it’s a contradiction from the previous day. Going off of the original pricing I was quoted the first day, I paid a ridiculous amount amount of money to do a functions check and live fire test; both are things I could have done myself. Now I will have to waste even more money for someone else to actually look at the weapon system’s internal components. I made a complaint to Jimmy, a manager of Spring Guns and Ammo, and I requested a partial refund. He offered some ammo to compensate for the loss, which was a good gesture, but I didn’t need anything from there store. He explained he couldn’t give any refunds for the gunsmith. That is a dumb policy! I would also like to point out that the gunsmith did not come out to talk to me when I dropped the weapon off or when I picked it up. I would think that he would at least explain to me what work he did or didn’t do when I came in to pick it up, but he didn’t. Also, there are no armorer certifications hanging up in the gunsmith’s lobby. I should have asked to see a Remington 870 armorer certification, or any certifications for that matter, but I didn’t. That’s my fault. With nothing hanging up as of 2 September, 2015, there’s a possibility that he isn’t accredited to work on firearms by anyone. Don’t waste your time or money on this gunsmith.

the guys behind the counter are very helpful and informative, the range is so nice, always clean, good ventilation, they're not baby sitting you when you shoot. they have great prices on ammo and plenty of room to hang out if all lanes are full, I'd give it 5 starts but the girls that check you in to shoot are always on their phone or not paying attention, we stood in front of them for a while and had to ask if any one of them could check us in. once you ask for service they get cocky and treat you like whatever, I thought it was bc I'm a girl, but I noticed it with everyone checking in. that's the only down hill, other than that I love to go shoot there !

This place is definitely worth the drive from Houston. Not only do they have much better prices, the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I had a friend come into town who wanted to go shooting. While I've gone shooting before, I did not feel comfortable enough with a gun to teach him. We both had a 30 minute lesson with Jim, who was a huge help. He helped me improve my shot, and he even came back to check on us after the lesson was over. Overall, this was a great experience!

The store here is very nice. There are many firearms and firearm parts & accessories to choose from. As far as the range goes, if you want to do some real shooting, go elsewhere. They have employees who's sole purpose is to watch your every move. I was hassled about "rapid fire" when I was not firing rapidly. I was using a Springfield XD .40 at this time. I fired about 5 shots down range about a half second apart. This guy came flying from behind the obsrevation glass, giving me crap about "rapid firing". His opinion was that I was pulling the trigger as fast as I could. Not the case at all. The other employees were not friendly and they acted as if they did not want to be bothered. There were some other things that happened that I feel were racially charged and I will not get into that part but I won't be visiting this place ever again. I'll take my chances at Shiloh.

Have used the range many times. The staff can be hit or miss, but leans more toward the positive end of the spectrum. Bring the right ammo and be deliberate about not firing too rapid (kind of sticklers on that). They should be a bit more aware of shooter experience and vary their responses accordingly. (My opinion)

Their store is pretty big with good selection. Their range was nice and clean and everything worked properly. Their range prices are better than their nearest competition. The day I went, they were very busy; there was a wait to get a range lane. They had a special on that day, though, and it was during the holiday break, so that might have had something to do with it. it kinda sucked to have to wait, but I can't fault them for that. I try to look at it like this: if they're attracting that many customers, then they must be doing something right!

I went into the store last night and was greeted soon after I came in - I had questions not only about classes, but about handguns in general. I was able to speak with someone right away about the classes that they offered - not only private lessons but CHL class and was told to go to Groupon to get the deals that were offered there. After that I was able to talk in detail with Brandon about the different guns that I was interested in and was even able to go out to the range and have a lesson then and there - he was very helpful and made me feel more comfortable than I was walking into the store. I will definitely be back!
