Thanks, Susan, for a revealing interview (and a concise, incisive review as well). I've just started WOOL and Howey is correct in that he labors over each sentence. You can feel his literary cred from the first paragraph. I also appreciated his insight into the "typo problems in self-published books." I remember reading BLACK AND BLUE by Anna Quindlen, a fabulous book, some years back and I was amazed/incredulous at all the typos that had gotten by the editors. (I bought the book at a used bookstore and the previous reader had highlighted a great number of them in yellow.) Also, the narrator would skip between a subjunctive and non-subjunctive voice from page to page. Not very consistent. Nevertheless, I'd recommend that book to anyone. Fabulous, heart-wrenching story (which is what Howey says matters).
Thanks for presenting a very interesting, bold, and revolutionary literary figure.
