These instructions worked great for me. The key, I think, was wearing the blue gloves.

Interesting, but I'm not sure I agree: "The issues on which you're prepared to compromise and politic are the ones about which you're most anxious to see the world move in your direction."

Once again, Army and Navy have our undivided attention. And for the first time since 2002, the game holds no postseason implications. That fall, Paul Johnson’s first in Annapolis, might have been the worst game in the series’ history: Navy was 1-10, as was Army, and the latter, though it was unaware at the time, was in the early stages of a 19-game losing streak. Yet the game still mattered; it mattered for all the reasons this game always matter...

Pretty sure I don't agree. Has something to do with what people mean by "meaning", which I'm pretty sure has a teleological sense that isn't being accounted for here.
Andrew Sullivan quotes this passage from Jennifer Fulwiler's account of her conversion to Catholicism from atheism: If everything that we call heroism and glory, and all the significance of all great human achievements, can be reduced to some neurons firing in the human brain, then it's all destined to be extinguished at death. And considering that the entire span of homo sapiens' existence on earth wouldn't even amount to a blip on the radar sc...

Yikes.
Dr. Taylor Marshall, a Ph.D.. from the University of Dallas and a convert to Catholicism from the Episcopal Church where he was a priest, has a political dream. It’s not Martin Luther King’s dream, either. I do know a couple of conservative Catholics who would be sympathetic to his dream-but who would say it goes too far. Catholicism, they would say, is not a religion of “either/or” but of “both/and”: there is no reason, they would say, the White...

Broadsnark, looking at my piece on the Civil War, and my thoughts on Ron Paul, gives us this from Howard Zinn: You can't deny that the civil war is fought and slavery is ended. But even while not forgetting that - that is very, very important - it is worthwhile at least looking at the other side of the balance sheet. 600,000 dead in the civil war...in a population of 30 million...600,000 today would mean we fought a civil war in which 5 million p...
