Very excited about the groundbreaking on the site of our Forever Home.  Austin Dog Alliance began six years ago with $80 and one therapy dog.  We've come a long way!  Lots of work ahead on fundraising and making the dream become reality, but we're looking forward to this adventure :)

A lot of work is ahead, but we're really excited about the September ground breaking on the site of our new center, and expanding our work in the community in 2013!

Our summer campers visited Williamson County Regional Animal Center on Friday to volunteer with the dogs and make "Adopt Me!" videos.  Here are Bailey, Maya, and Mara with their video about Sherry, a lab mix :)

Therapy dogs in the news - "Scientific journals and medical studies have addressed the benefits of pet therapy for cancer patients. Animal-assisted therapy is a recognized treatment that employs animals to boost emotional and physical well-being of patients".

ADA therapy dogs, Z and Tai (and their handlers, Debbie and Eric Sparks) were featured on KEYE-TV news tonight, on the "Healing Power of Pets". The story also featured the PALS (Pets Assisting the Lives of Seniors) outreach program of Meals on Wheels in Austin.

We have a wonderful group of adoptable dogs in our rescue/foster/adoption program. Our group includes several "Special Dogs for Special Needs" dogs that have received manners training so that they can easily assimilate into a special needs family.

In August, Doggie Deli is donating a portion of their sales to help fund our new facility.  If you're in the area, stop by and check out their healthy and high-quality foods, amazing all-natural treats, toys, leashes, collars, and more.  Not only can you be confident in your purchase from Doggie Deli, but you'll also be supporting a good cause!

We're excited to be one of eight U.S. organizations this year to receive a grant from Planet Dog Foundation!  From Kristen Smith, Executive Director of the foundation:  "Planet Dog Foundation is honored to establish a partnership with the Austin Dog Alliance through this grant.  Their comprehensive program to improve the health and well-being of individuals and families by incorporating the powerful connection between humans and dogs aligns beautifully with our mission to celebrate and support dogs working to help people in need. We are proud to invest in their remarkable program and help dogs to help people in so many ways.”  Thanks Planet Dog!

ADA therapy dog Hunter spent time this week at San Juan Diego Catholic High School helping students relax before final exams. Here's Hunter with John, a junior at the high school. After spending some time with Hunter, students went into exams calmer and ready to test.
