That was fast. Fresh out of the gates, and CurrentC is already hacked. This, my friends, is why CurrentC's system is bad: they store all your private and bank info in their cloud. ApplePay stores ZERO bank info on their system. It's all decoded / transcoded by your actual bank.

Bitcasa just shot themselves in the foot.

Somebody decided that the only thing that makes their company stand out (unlimited storage) doesn't cut it anymore, so they went ahead and killed the service with less than 30 days notice.

Basically you can either switch to a monthly plan, or you can #diaf  as far as they care. There is some weak FAQ'ing going on here: https://support.bitcasa.com/hc/en-us/articles/203936983

But they are glazing over the fact that they gave us less than a month of notice. They keep blabbing about how awesome the new infrastructure is, and how it is unfair that nobody uses the infinite storage so why the hell bother offering it? At the same time they argue almost nobody goes above 10 TB, and claim that they are killing the unlimited due to abuse to the TOS. Which one is it?

Then it gets better. I thought well, I am 30% in the lower tier, so I'll just switch to that. Here's the problem: bitcasa is hosed, we can't finish the process that they just pitched to us.

Best Cassandra driver?

I'm jotting around looking for cassandra drivers for PHP. Preferably, Cassandra 2.x, CQL3.x with PHP 5.5.x

I've discovered several; however, every one seems to be coded Cassandra 1.x branch, using Thrift. Anybody here using CQL3? And what do you use?

Here are the ones I've come across:

phpcassa: http://thobbs.github.io/phpcassa/  - It's 1.x centered. It has a raw implementation, but it's buggy and not officially supported.

cassandra_pdo: https://code.google.com/a/apache-extras.org/p/cassandra-pdo/  - Hasn't been updated for coming onto  2 years...

YACassandraPDO: https://github.com/Orange-OpenSource/YACassandraPDO  - Best I've found so far: they've branched off cassandra_pdo and keeping things updated. This is what I'm currently planning on using.

php-cassandra: https://github.com/mauritsl/php-cassandra  - New kid on the block. but doesn't have the traction or capabilities to consider itself production ready.

Are there any other worthy ones I might have missed?

Dear New Year Resolutioners (and long time gym goers); as a general reminder, please (properly) re-rack your weights to their correct location(s). Putting on and putting away weights is part of your workout, too. Thank you.

[my only pet-peeve with New Years: the large mass of people not knowing how to 1) put away weights or 2) match numbers properly. I was reminded of this today...wow]

Okay cyclists, it's time I start looking into bikes. Tips? Suggestions? I live only 2 miles from work (3mi from work to the gym); it'll be foolish of me not to start cycling it.

So, anybody in the Cali. south-bay area? Guess who's moving? I'll miss the VI, but Glacial decided to say good-bye; so now I'm saying hello to Mountain View, CA. I accepted a new job offer with Western Digital out of Mountain View, CA. I'll be moving ... pretty much as soon as I get my household and the dog shipped off.

Have any leads on pet-friend places near MV area? Rent is like 2.5 times the typical rent here, so maybe roommating with outdoors enthusiasts?

Tropical Storm Isaac coming through! First storm of the season.
