In 1966 the dollar replaced the pound as currency of the Bahamas. The Bahamian dollar (BSD) is of equal value to that of the United States. The portrait of Queen Elizabeth II has been replaced on most of the banknotes with those of distinguished deceased politicians, namely Sir Lynden O. Pindling, Sir Milo B. Butler, Sir Cecil Wallace-Whitfield, Sir Stafford Sands and Sir Roland Symonette.

The queen’s portrait remains on the half dollar and three dollar notes which are rarely circulated.
