Good food. This is different than your typical latin restaurant. Go with an open mind for new dishes and you will enjoy it.

Oba is a fantastic restaurant in the pearl. They have great high quality food. The happy hour is also cheap and very good. The service is always very attentive and the location is awesome. try it out!

UPDATE: A long time favorite is no more. Much to my chagrin changes have taken place at Oba. Some are significant, like removing my wife's absolute favorite dish...the banana steak (bife a micalense) from the menu. Others more subtle, like replacing mashed potatoes with rice pilaf and taking away the roasted corn salsa from the vaca frita, or using banana sorbet instead of banana ice cream with the malasadas. Even the amazing guac is not enough to bring us back to Oba sadly. Here's to hoping your favorite(s) have been left untouched. Oba is our go-to for special occasions. The food and drinks are always good and always consistent. The only negative about Oba is the service. It is almost always slow. Slow like put your next drink order in when you current drink is being served. And it's not just an issue with the bar. The timing of the food service has been off on just about every visit. We always order the same dishes so we order everything when the server first visits our table but our food inexplicably comes out after tables that were seated after us and ordered after us. It was so bad the last time that I actually adjusted our tip and left a note on the back of the receipt.

Liked: Happy hour menu is all you'll need if you arrive early enough. Pitchers of mojitos and margaritas are just perfect. Fish tacos. Tasteful atmosphere. Disliked: Can be an expensive night out for full scale dinner with friends.

Great location for happy hour! wonderful service, you can sit outside and enjoy the summer breeze. Walking distance to many wonderful gems in the Pearl District. I recommend stopping here on any 1st Thursday and you're bound to see quite a mix of characters!

The restaurant side is a large space, with an attempting to be tropical feel. They have nice drapes, big booths, and some palms throughout. Decent food, but spendy. I had langostinas as an appetizer, and that was quite tasty. The main course was not so notable. Their wine is marked up to be 4 times what it goes for in the store. The servers are nice, but a little on the hoity toity side. I went here recently, and also have been about 8 years ago (I remember because my step mom was cheers-ing Bush's re-election... ug). I remember being much more impressed 8 years ago, as well as having bigger, more filling portions. I probably won't go again for dinner, but I would go for the bar.
