Tungsten, tin, gold, and tantalum are minerals that are used in a number of common technologies that we use daily – from cell phones and laptops to automobiles. While many people use these items, they may not be aware of how these items affect others. This article entitled, “Does conflict-free sourcing really matter?” explains the importance of conflict-free sourcing, a cause for which Global Tungsten & Powders has always felt strongly.

GTP takes pride in its compliance with the Conflict-Free Smelter Program (CFSP) Tungsten Protocol. Being certified means that GTP practices conflict-free sourcing, and is in compliance with the Dodd-Frank Act. To read the article, click here:

Global Tungsten & Powders takes preserving the environment very seriously. For over 40 years, we have been recycling tungsten-based materials in effort to preserve the environment for generations to come and to secure our supply of raw materials. We have the capabilities to process all types of secondary raw materials such as grinding sludge, hard scrap, shavings and turnings, sweepings and powder, used inserts, and punches and dies.

Through our process, we break down secondary raw material. From scrap, we then produce tungsten chemicals and powders and have the ability to reclaim cobalt powder, nickel, and tantalum.

Tungsten is one of many key raw materials that Global Tungsten & Powders uses. Another important key raw material GTP uses is hydrogen. A lack of hydrogen can cause production disruptions, so it was important for GTP to develop a long-term, on-site system that would provide an uninterrupted supply of hydrogen. With GTP’s hydrogen supplier, we were able to install a system that would meet our hydrogen requirements by utilizing local Marcellus natural gas – in turn, improving our security of supply and helping protect the environment.

GTP acquires Tikomet – enabling an increase of products GTP can provide its customers

Global Tungsten & Powders recently acquired Tikomet, an independent supplier to the hardmetal industry. Located in Jyväskylä, 270 kilometers north of Helsinki (Finland), Tikomet has developed a recycling technology based on the zinc recycling process. While GTP uses a chemical recycling process, utilizing Tikomet’s process will expand GTP’s recycling capability and continue our longstanding commitment to the evironment. The acquisition will continue to allow GTP to deliver high quality, cost competitive products to its current and future customers.
