Great environment of a prohibition styled hangout. Grand piano in the middle of the ground floor. Classical decor and 1930s pillars throughout the building. The bar gets jampacked after about 7pm. Took the girlfriend here for her birthday dinner - can't go wrong with the variety this place offers. The service is great - coat check at the front, a very knowledgeable staff, and bartenders that just come across like they can make some solid old fashioned's in their sleep. Now for the food...this is American done right. We had the potato pillows - delicious fried potato treat topped with caviar. Steak Tartare - the waiter comes to your table with the Brandt Steak meat, and all the toppings surrounding its perimeter, then proceeds to mix it all in front of you as he explains what each ingredients does the dish. This was the best tartare I have ever had. My girlfriend had the duck breast, which was very tasty but from reading her emotions - I think she would've rather had the steak. I ordered the Porkshire pork chops. I had no idea what a differentiated a Porkshire pork chop from your premium pork chops, but after my first bite I will associate Porkshire with godlike. I have never had such a tender pork chop, each bite stuffed with the juices it was marinated and cooked in. Instead of the butter beans I substituted in cream spinach - no regrets there. Great food, great service, and parking is relatively easy if you look around the area - no need for the valet unless you enjoy the whole snazzy idea of pulling up in an alleyway and letting a valet take over from there.

I'll admit I was skeptical at first, I thought the bartenders too cool for school "you can only order a drink of our mixologist menu" attitude was going to set the tone for the night. Happily I was mistaken. The beverage did turn out to be quite tasty (Ruby Red Collins) and our server more than made up for the snootiness downstairs. Speaking of stairs-if you go request an upstairs table! It was awesome to take in the old wooden bar, interesting paintings and jazz band playing downstairs, while we ate. On to the food-deviled eggs and lobster spaghetti-do it. Both were amazing. Sadly there was no room for dessert but that just means I will have to go back! * I went back and forced dessert upon myself. Bananas Foster, it wasn't made table side and was rather lacking overall. Stick to the Lobster Spaghetti and deviled eggs!

I'm really disappointed in Bix in that I chose to bring my work colleagues there. Will, the manager, needs a reality check.

Comprehensive wine and champagne list with delicious menu and helpful staff. Martinis are also delightful here. Tucked away in a back alley off Jackson Square, this spot welcomes you with twinkling lights and golden ambiance. Great for third date!

Woof. Stay away from Will the manager. Long story short, we were asked to leave. Bad comm between server and manger. Two out of eight meals were not palatable and when we commented on it, they got defensive. Words were exchanged, we were asked to leave and we didn't have a chance to pay at $1,000.00 bill. Ego interfered with business. Poor service.

Dining at Bix is a wonderful experience, you know you have entered somewhere special as you walk down the allyway on to Gold Street. I found the bar at Bix to be hugely impressive with a fine selection of spirits, wines and cocktails. It is a great meeting place to catch up with friends or colleagues. The interior is dark which makes for a great setting, the pictures on the wall tell a story on their own. I attended as party of 15 for dinner and found the service to be friendly and very efficient. Our set menu, offering a great selection and highly recommend the steak tartare. Bix has a wonderful Speakeasy vibe and is thoroughly delightful experience that I will treasure in SF

Stunning food, atmosphere and service. Can't say a thing to fault it. Live jazz, mouthwatering food, perfect drink pairings? Comfortable seating, beautiful architecture, and surprisingly affordable for all that. I'm only regretful we rocked up as early as 6:30 and didn't get to enjoy much of the band, which didn't start until 8:30... Next time. And there *will* be a next time.

Walking into Bix is like taking a trip to New Orleans. The best part is it's in the heart of San Francisco! Bix is a San Francisco gem that boasts a delicious and creative menu with a variety of meat dishes from duck and chicken to steak, and even lobster spaghetti. My favorite plate is the decadent black truffle cheese burger. It's so rich in flavor that I can only manage to eat half of it in one sitting. Their potato pillows are a must as an appetizer! Think tater tots with a luxurious twist. Oh - and did I mention that bix has live jazz music? Not just the instrumentals but an incredible singer whose voice is so angelic that you won't believe she's singing live. The music paired with the stunning architecture of Bix's restaurant makes the Bix dining experience unlike any other you'll find in San Francisco.
