I don't know what any of these reviews are talking about. There is no mean proprietor just an austere Korean woman who rings up your food. If you want good conversation go to Trader Joes. As for the credit card fee. Stop whining. They have a fine and diverse selection and their produce is surprisingly good.

I deeply, deeply hate the guy who owns this place. He is a terrible person. The market is great but I hate to spend my money there because of the piece of garbage low-life behind the counter. I have never encountered someone who treats his customers so poorly. He does not deserve my money.

Not sure what store June 30, 2009 is talking about, because this place doesn't even have a wine section (or a butcher). I'm w/the other one star reviewers; terrible & rude proprietor; high prices and produce always on its last legs. While I live w/in walking distance, it's hard to support such an unpleasant local business. $10 minimum for credit card purchases; no option to pay an additional small fee if you don't have cash, rather you're forced to get ripped off by the in-store ATM. I was a pretty regular customer but I've made my last visit; if not forever, for a very long time. No excuse to be such a poor neighbor.

The Farms is a jewel, a vanishing breed. Its owner is the grandson of the owner of Fireside Market, which for many years occupied the space on Montana Avenue where Whole Foods is now. So this is a multi-generation family business. The butcher section is marvelous --fresh products and real butchers! The produce is great; so are all the specialty packaged goods. They'll cook for you for holidays, and the "boys" who run the place will become like old friends to you. There's also a good wine selection. A winner in every way! I just wish their hours were longer.

The store is OK, but the owner seems to have many personal demons. He is very unpleasant...throwing your purchase on the counter at you and never thanking you for your patronage. He does not belong in the Santa Monica neighborhood of good vibes! Aviod this bad experience place at all costs.
