I was really looking forward to this. We arrived at 1:30 on Saturday afternoon when they were supposed to be open until 3:00 p.m. They weren't. A fellow wearing a cook's apron came outside to say they were open at 5:00. No other explanation. I'm not happy to have taken a cab from downtown for this. One of my pet restaurant peeves is a restaurant that isn't open when advertised. Even if a patron arrives 5 minutes before closing, you're open. Don't say you aren't. But hell 1.5 HOURS! Unless you live next door, why risk it? No chance I'll try this place again.

Everything eaten there several times and never had a bad meal ,love the atmosphere and everyone who works there is always friendly. I would advise anybody to go try it and you will love it.

I found this place on Google maps. Thank heaven for Google maps. I drive past this place frequently and haven't noticed it. Or if I noticed it, I just saw a hole in the wall restaurant in an industrial zone. This place does not deserve obscurity. I frequent Mojo's and this place tops Mojo's by several stars. My kids live in New York City, and I have eaten dozens of meals that top $60 per person. Some that topped $100. None of them top Checker BBQ. The menu is narrow. You have fired shrimp and fried fish. Fried green tomatoes, Collards, crab cakes, cheese grits, and a few other things, including pork ribs. If you go on a buffet night, the quantity of food will overwhelm you. No restaurant I have ever been to prepares seafood as well. None are even close. The shrimp are same day fresh and perfectly cooked. This is the only place I've been to that knows how to make cocktail sauce. Enough horseradish to clear your sinuses. Simply great. If cracker cooking doesn't appeal to you, this is not your place, but if local seafood and local cooking, perfectly done, appeals to you, give them a call. I recommend dialing ahead to make sure you can get a reservation for a buffet dinner.

Art is a great entertainer and his food is superb. Sometimes he will give food free to needy people. I especially like his lightly breaded shrimp and his fried green tomatoes.

"Arrive with an empty stomach" per directions from Art, the chef himself. The chef's personality, passion, food, and experience is priceless. He is not easily forgotten. Reservations recommended, arrive early, and don't eat until the dinner bell rings. Later, the chef announces "hot shrimp", and you are served from an iron skillet. Everything is made from scratch, and the dessert melts in your mouth. Be there.

Main thing I look for in restaurant is chef make you have good time. Also much appreciates is if you want some grilled and they make for you a not cost. Much provided at place. I like.

I just want to go back. We all enjoyed our selfs. So frtendly to all of us. Great food and service, if you leave hungry it,s your own fault. We will be back soon.From Blackshear, Ga.
