Fundación EcoMinga has purchased 2,545 acres (1,030 hectares) of forest between the National Parks of Sangay and Los Llanganates in central Ecuador.

The purchase was made possible thanks to the many donations to the Forests in the Sky Appeal.
So far WLT supporters have raised £310,000 for the Forests in the Sky Appeal, but £190,000 is still urgently needed to purchase the plots of land necessary to complete the corridor.

Green is most definitely our favourite colour.

At Healeys, we're renewing our association with the World Land Trust to carbon balance the paper we use so that endangered forests worldwide can be protected.

Carbon Balanced, a World Land Trust programme "enables individuals and companies to offset their unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions through the protection and restoration of carbon-rich wildlife habitats in the tropics."

From 1st November 2015 we're also offsetting our operational carbon output to become one of the UK's Carbon Balanced Certified Printers – this will offset nearly 250 tonnes of carbon from our manufacture and vehicle output.

The great news is that, by being part of this scheme, the World Land Trust delivers Carbon Balanced offsets through:

"- Avoided deforestation – protecting standing forest under imminent threat of clearance, so preventing the release of its stored carbon.

- Rehabilitating degraded forest – through protection, usually from grazing livestock and wood-cutting, to allow the forest to recover and in so doing soak up CO2.

- Reforestation – planting native trees on cleared land adjacent to existing forest patches, to join them up or extend them, thus again soaking up CO2 and improving the survival prospects of endangered species.

- Assisted natural regeneration – allowing regeneration by natural succession, usually by excluding grazing livestock and controlling fire. Carbon is locked up as vegetation grows. The process may be accelerated by enrichment planting to accelerate re-colonisation of forest species that might otherwise fail to appear."

We're proud of our efforts when it comes to carbon offsetting - we'd certainly encourage any other businesses that read this to look at the World Land Trust's Carbon Balanced programme.

World Land Trust - Rainforest Conservation in Action
Introduction
The World Land Trust (WLT) is an international conservation organisation that takes direct action to save rainforest and other wildlife habitats. So far WLT and its overseas project partners have been instrumental in the purchase and protection of over 500,000 acres.

"The money that is given to the World Land Trust, in my estimation, has more effect on the wild world than almost anything I can think of."
Sir David Attenborough

Mission:
  • To protect and sustainably manage natural ecosystems of the world.
  • To develop partnerships with local individuals, communities and organisations
  • To raise awareness, in the UK and elsewhere, of the need for conservation.
Read our full mission statement on the WLT website

Did you know that a donation is made to save threatened tropical forest through the World Land Trust for every wedding photographed? So far BK Photography has donated and has saved 13,000 square metres of critically threatened forest. Many thanks to Bartocz for his support and congratulations to everyone who tied the knot in 2013.
