Any higher-powered charger will work, according to Apple, but you’ll see best results if you plug into a 29W USB-C MacBook charger, which will net you 50 percent charge in 30 minutes. Other chargers are similarly speedy, though: I saw 40 percent more charge on the 8 Plus in 30 minutes connected to an iPad charger. But you’ll have to buy a high-powered wall charger separately to see those speeds — in the box is the same 5W brick that has come with the iPhone since time immemorial.

Faster hardware, improved software and reliable performance

The dual-camera setup, which is the key highlight of the Note 8, impresses all the way, whether it is daylight or low light. The live focus (portrait mode) and wide-angle modes are bonuses.

The neat tricks of the S Pen help you be as productive as you can.

The Good
The Sol is a surprisingly likable lamp with a distinctive design and the full capabilities of Amazon's Alexa. It even gives her a couple of extra tricks that you won't get with other Alexa devices, like visual timer countdowns.

The Bad
The lamp feels a bit plasticky, it can't call other Alexa devices like the Echo can and it doesn't include Amazon's ESP feature, which is important if you want a lot of Alexa devices in your home.

The Bottom Line
GE's Alexa lamp is a good idea and it works well, but it costs a little too much for our tastes.
