A weekly gathering of artists for connection and discussion.
Introduction
What's this about?

When I was at art school, Fridays saw us taking over buildings with our work. Students, usually faculty, sometimes friends would gather to look at each other's art and create fruitful discussions.

We all benefitted from a regularly scheduled gathering. It gave us an incentive to make things. We could check in with what we were doing, even (especially) if that meant sketches and works in progress. It was useful to have artists of different disciplines and skills, all sharing their unique perspectives with each other.

Let's do that on G+. We have a great community of artists and a bunch of friends who'd love to see what we're working on.

How to Participate
  1. Circle this page.
  2. Create a post showing the work you'd like to share. Works in progress encouraged! If you want everyone in the group to see your post, make sure you share it publicly.
  3. Include information like medium, size, intended presentation, process, etc. The more we understand, the better feedback you'll get.
  4. Make sure to plus +Friday Art Confab in the post. Add the #Confab hashtag so you can be searched.
  5. On Friday sometime US Mountain Time I will post a list of all the artists participating, with a link to your post.
  6. Check out all the work featured, drop by and talk with the artists. Let the conversation roll!

Who may participate?

If you call yourself an artist, you're welcome here. Visual artists of all sorts, photographers, painters, drawers, writers, musicians, everyone. The more diverse the group the more challenging discussions may become... but hopefully also more rewarding.

Not sharing?

That's ok, you don't have to share something to participate. Circle the page and I'll let you know when the list is done. Go check out some art! It's not necessary to give a critique if you don't want to. If you do venture into those waters, here are some guidelines:

Confabulating

Instead of using phrases such as "I like..." or trying to solve problems for the artist, think about ways to express what you find successful or interesting about a piece. Why do you feel that way? Is there something that would change your opinion?

Putting your work out there is terrifying on the best of days, I know it's part of your soul hanging there. But even so, try to step aside and let the work stand on its own. It's stronger than you might think. If you try to substitute yourself your work, you could get hurt. Nobody wants that.

The poor woman seems a bit creeped out by the stranger wanting to walk/peek in? The shadows, I thought were quite interesting too, while painting this one.

This week I have been experimenting with ink and pigment powders.  I have been having a great deal of fun combining the colors and splashing on inks and pigments trying to create a piece I love.  I have also been experimenting with different finishes.  I am quite pleased with this one and have a few others that have turned out pretty cool.  I was trying to give the impression of a faint mountain line across the bottom.  I blended my inks and powdered pigments with rubbing alcohol, water and the blow dryer.  I would love to hear what you think of the results +Friday Art Confab +First Friday Art Walk  This piece is on stretched canvas and measures 20" x 30" #art   #artist   #abstract   #painting

What questions do you have for other artists?

This post comes from our fledgeling email list at tinyletter.com/fridayartconfab. In the interests of improving our confabulatory experience here at FAC, I'd like to get some feedback on what we as artists are curious to learn from other artists.

So what do you think? If you could ask a question to any artist, from your favorite old master to someone cool here on G+... what would it be? I'm especially curious what the denizens of
#firstfridayartwalk  +First Friday Art Walk will say.

(To the nine of you for whom this is a duplicate ping, I sincerely apologize and thank you for your forbearance. This business of rebooting is somewhat awkward and messy.)
