Oral disease prevention. How often do you think about it? Oftentimes, people only think about it when it is too late and treatment is needed. According to a recent study by the American Dental Association (ADA), prevention, education, and change in behaviors can actually save money in the long run. By getting regular checkups, you will spend less over the course of a lifetime. Checkups are typically covered by insurance whereas treatments are more costly. Even when treatment is covered by insurance, the out-of-pocket costs are higher than the out-of-pocket costs for preventative appointments.

According to ADA President Dr. Charles H. Norman III, “The two most prevalent dental pathologies—tooth decay and gum disease—are almost entirely preventable. Education about the dangers of tobacco and alcohol use can, by leading to behavioral changes, help prevent oral cancer." Taking precautions in sports activities is another way to prevent oral disease. For instance, athletes who wear mouth guards can prevent potential facial injuries. These are things that may not be top-of-mind, but as the saying goes; an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

At Arbor Dental Group, we are committed to decreasing disease through prevention. Call us today at 303-625-7423 to see how taking small measures now can help ward off disease later!
