Tomatoes Protect Against Depression
A recent study examined the mental health and diets of nearly 1000 people over 70. Those who ate tomatoes 2 to 6 times a week were 46 percent less likely to experience symptoms of depression than those who reported eating tomatoes less than once a week. This correlation had not been seen with any other fruit or vegetable.

Here’s an easy way to test your soil pH using vinegar and baking soda.

1. Collect about 1 cup of soil from your garden and divide into two containers.
2. Add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to one sample. If it fizzes, your soil is alkaline with a pH between 7 and 8.
3. If it doesn’t fizz, add two tablespoons of distilled water to the other sample and mix until the soil is muddy.
4. Add 1/2 of baking soda to the second sample. If it fizzes, your soil is acidic with a pH between 5 and 6.
5. If neither sample fizzes, then your soil is neutral. Lucky you!
