A Stanford analysis of 237 studies of organic food concluded that organic food is no more nutritious than their conventional counterparts. That was the catchy hedline. There was much more in the report, as Maria Rodale eloquently writes in this post. It is not just what is in the food, it is also about what is NOT in the food.

It may not look like it but this is a stove, a fridge and an energy generator at the same time. Simple, cool technology. It is based on the Stirling Motor, a 19th century invention that we recently featured http://ow.ly/d8k3r

Yes, let's support a Tesla Museum. And let's continue studying his work and experiments. There is still much about electricity that Tesla understood and we don't. A lot of energy could be discovered that way.

Almost 19 years ago I set out on a journey that today we describe as “solutions journalism”. First in Ode and now in The Intelligent Optimist we have published stories from the perspective that for every problem there’s at least the beginning of a solution. As we did so, we discovered optimism as truly the best strategy for a healthy, happy and successful life. Optimism is often misunderstood. That’s why I have decided to launch a blog to explore the benefits of optimism. My first post is about Pollyanna, the story that is so often used to dismiss optimism. You can read it here: http://bit.ly/19ZmTJ5. You may also want to download my “7 Reasons to be an Optimist” Here: http://ow.ly/pY2pO

Sounds grand. When my mother gets tired of Thailand, perhaps she can live here.

This is a good exercise for those who think that we may have a problem generating enough energy for the growing world population.

Making the world a better place can be really easy: Eat together at home. Research shows that regular family dinners make kids healthier and happier. How often do you share a meal at home?

A journalist in search of stories that make lives happier, healthier and the world a better place
Introduction
I run The Intelligent Optimist (formerly Ode Magazine), a media company focused on presenting solutions to problems the planet and humanity face. We publish a bi-monthly magazine and we organise (online) events and courses. Everything we do is around stories that make lives happier and healthier and the world a better place.

I am married to Helene de Puy and we have four children. Together we founded Ode Magazine in The Netherlands in 1995. In 2004 we brought the international English edition of Ode to the United States. In 2012 we re-named our magazine The Intelligent Optimist and we launched a membership program to spread intelligent optimism as a way of life.
