Drawing from the gut

When conversing about my art I’m often asked: where do you get your ideas?
When thinking of new pieces I inadvertently draw from organic and nature inspired themes. However, instead of copying directly from nature I interpret these shapes by drawing with my eyes closed. It adds another layer to the design that often yields unexpected shapes with interesting distortions.
Drawing with my eyes closed is liberating and fun. It is a way to engage the right side of the brain and take full advantage of my intuitions. I call it drawing from the gut.
