My wife and I split our trip to SD into 2 days here, two days on Mission Beach and 2 days Downtown. It was a great way to explore the city. I ran from different locations every morning, and then we explored what SD had to offer during the day. We chose this property for its location. The hotel is across the street from the ocean and sea life, and you can take the stairs to get to the heart of La Jolla restaurants and shops. Free breakfast was just ok, but the views from the top of the hotel where breakfast is served can't be beat. We also enjoyed one sunset here (bring your own food if you wish). The staff was friendly and helpful. The pool and Jacuzzi seemed nice, but we did not try them. The room is... basic and barely good enough to be functional (fine for just crashing at the end of the day). The bathroom is twice the size of your typical airplane bath (if you include the shower). The decor is dated. They have a floor heater if needed and a fan (no air conditioning but we needed none as it was winter). Its noisy as people walk by your room. The bed was comfortable enough. The room is basically a cheap motel. Would we stay here again? Maybe. We really knew what we were getting and thought it was well worth it to be able to check out the seals and sea lions on early morning runs and late in the day after coming back from another activity.

My family has been coming for several years in a row. They have always been extremely accommodating, and we are able to do all kinds of cooking in the kitchen and using the grills by the pool. Breakfast is always fun with the fresh waffles and toppings and it is definitely great for large families. We love it and plan to keep coming every year!

They were clean hotel rooms with HD televisions and stunning views of the La Jolla Cove area. Walking distance of some restaruants. We did not use the pool however it looked clean. The staff was willing to help us find information about nearby areas and the continental breakfast was delicious.

The smell was disgusting. The rooms were tiny and had no ac. Didn't even spend the night! Walked in the room and walked right back out!

The hotel was old and outdated and the rooms were quite small and the smell from all of the sea lions was horrible, enough to make me nauseated. But it was right across the street from La Jolla cove. the view from the balcony and the rooftop, for breakfast, was Amazing.
Response from the owner - 2 months ago
Hi Christine, thank you for your comments, and yes, all our guests agree with you, our views are quite amazing. We do apologize for the the occasional sea life odor that you experienced the day you were with us. It is a natural occurrence from the marine life so close by. Fortunately not one that occurs very often. Your guest room was one of our smaller accommodations, but I invite you to come back to experience one of our oceanfront suites that range up to 2000 square feet, I think you will find them very accommodating on your next visit. Hope to see you soon!

Old building and not really fancy from the outside... rooms are okay and decently sized, plus patio.
