Someone I know posted a rant about his profession and it completely made sense to me and my profession, photography.
"I'm blown away that people who have no real world experience and no real training are providing services that require such detail and precision are doing a severe disservice to those of us who have the skill and training. "
In photography there are people who know what they are doing and are willing to pass that information on to others. Then there are people who couldn't make it in photography, have no experience or training in photography, yet shout to the heavens of their amazing ability and skill, then charge to pass that information on. This practice sickens me and cheapens our entire profession. People just looking for information on photography don't have the experience to tell the difference between a scam artist and a professional. Then after spending money and wasted time, the amateur will then realize he/she has been wasting their time.
I have been in professional photography for years and have been teaching in my free time for years. I would never charge for that time, its something I do to pay it forward. I have been guest speaker and held demos at photography schools, and have taken interns on who have become successful photographers.
To see people cheapen what I do is an insult to all of photography.
