Academic Calendar Update
As LSU has been closed for three days due to the inclement weather and concerns with travel safety, the university is now working to determine how those class days will be made up. While the full details of the plan have not yet been completed, university administration is working to identify the best possible solution for everyone.
At present and assuming no additional days will be missed, we anticipate the plan would utilize Saturday make-up days and would allow us to maintain the Mardi Gras and spring break holidays. We are in the process of determining which Saturdays will be designated as make-up class days. We will designate each Saturday to make up a specific class day. Therefore, one Saturday will be used to make up Friday classes, one to make up Tuesday classes, and one to make up Wednesday classes. Once the plan has been fully established, which is expected in the next couple of days, it will be communicated to the campus via www.lsu.edu
, broadcast email and LSU social media.
We recognize that there is no perfect solution to the problems caused by the severe winter weather we have experienced thus far in 2014. Undoubtedly, the implementation of these changes will require patience and cooperation by all.
Students, faculty and staff should know that the decision to close campus and cancel classes is not one that is made lightly, precisely because we know that making up days can be problematic for all involved. Please know that LSU President and Chancellor F. King Alexander, in conjunction with the LSU EOC, made the decision to close last Friday, yesterday, and today based on the best weather information available and with the safety of the LSU community as the primary concern.
*The deadline for adding courses and registering late has been extended to 4:30 p.m., Friday, January 31.
