On April 27 the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley, in collaboration with Peace Over Violence, will recognize Denim Day California 2016 by presenting “Wear Your Jeans with a Purpose.”
This free and educational event will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Savia building located at 23780 Newhall Ave.
The purpose of Denim Day is to wear jeans as a symbol of protest against destructive attitudes about sexual violence. Residents are encouraged to join the millions nationwide by standing up against sexual assault by wearing their jeans with a purpose on Denim Day.
Peace Over Violence developed the campaign after an Italian Supreme Court case that sparked international outrage when judges did not convict a rapist because the victim wore tight-fitting jeans. The judges ruled that because the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped her attacker remove them, thus implying consent.
For more information on the “Wear Your Jeans with a Purpose” presentation, please call (661) 259-8175 or visit http://dvc-scv.com/index.php/denim-day-2016/

Today At The DVC... ‪#dvcofscv #todayatthedvc

The Domestic Violence Center was at Saugus High School today working with the teens. It is vital that we educate and promote healthy relationships now; teaching students how to maintain healthy violence-free relationships. Our advocates are presenting these courses throughout the Santa Clarita high schools.
'One in 10 HS students has been purposely hit, slapped or physically hurt by a boyfriend or girlfriend'. This must stop.
