In all the talk this week about marriage and religious freedom, I heard numerous proclamations that “America is a Christian Nation!” I set out to prove just that to my Sunday school. Unfortunately, so-called “facts” and their pernicious cousin “reality” proved willfully uncooperative. (As did my hell-bound students!)

Stained By Inmates
A little too intimate/a little too infinite at Boron Federal Minimum Security Prison. Abandoned since 2001, so it's had a chance to air out, but it was still pretty funky in this building. I liked the full moon light and shadows coming in from the left, so I went out and mirrored it with red light from the right, and came back inside to gently cross-fill the mattress shadows with green, specifically to make your eyeballs vibrate. Protomachines flashlight, but mostly, it was 285 seconds of stumbling around in the dark. Several times, to get it right.

"The Caper"
I didn't show this image last night in the lecture, but talked to someone afterwards about this "bounce reflection" technique. Rather than lighting the front of this bent-up '60s Dart directly, I lit the line of cars behind the camera. These lit cars appear in the Dodge's chrome reflections. I snooted the headlights with purple to wake the car up, but I left the rest of the scene underexposed by 2+ stops.
