I think Rock Bottom is pretty under-rated. Yes, it's a chain but it's got some quality offerings. The burgers are good, the microbrews are excellent - I'm a Red Ale guy, myself - and the service is generally pretty good. The Grand St. location in particular has a more upscale dining area with for those who are so inclined and nothing beats the having a drink (or 6) on the rooftop deck in the summertime. I've had a number of entrees and never anything bad and the donut holes are great. If you've written this place off simply because it's a chain, you should check this particular location out and give it a chance.

This is probably one of my favorite pub chains. Their food, atmosphere, and service are always good. It can be a bit packed at times but is almost always worth it. The reason this specific location stands out? The rooftop is awesome! I was first introduced to one of these in the suburbs which was near a movie theater I went to quite often for awhile and when I saw one in the city when some friends and I were walking around looking for diner, I suggested we stop in. I didn't even know about the rooftop area until they suggested it and eating and drinking outside on a beautiful night is one of my highlights to dining. I don't know what it is but a great outside atmosphere just makes me happy and this Rock Bottom completely has it! The service was great and they were quick on refills for both beers and soft drinks spread throughout the table. In the past at a couple locations I tend to get their steaks or burgers which are great. This time (and lately I've been following in this thought process) we just had a slew of appetizers. The nachos, pretzel stix, southwest egg rolls, wings, and jalapeno spinach cheese dip are all out of this world. Seriously I'd actually say a mix and match of appetizers is the way to go if you are heading here for drinks with friends as you get a decent amount of food and a good time!

A great place for drinks and to just hang out with friends. The decor at Rock Bottom gives off a really relaxed vibe and you'll feel right at home once you step in. There are open spaces upstairs, which are great if you're planning to host a private event. Apart from the obviously fantastic craft beers, the food is surprisingly good as well. Try their mac and cheese, simple food done really well. Go early though, as this place fills up pretty quick.

I used to really enjoy going here, especially because my cousin lives directly across the street. However, their service has greatly diminished over the last few times I've been there. The food is fine and rooftop is really great in the summertime, but I can't get over how poorly they treated our handicapped companion. We brought a family member in a wheel chair and they didn't make any accommodations for him. Plus, the service was extremely slow. Our last experience wasn't good and that's what sticks out in my mind.

Why does anyone go to a chain restaurant in the heart of Chicago? The food is boring American pub cuisine, the beer is Rock Bottom's very own watery brew, and the clientele are large parties of suburban families with their bags of Michigan Ave wares. The only thing this place has going for it is the rooftop beer garden which is overcrowded in the summer and full of drunk frat boys.

Overall really fun spot. Would totally recommend the rooftop. Great scenery, Delicious food, and dangerously good drinks. Didn't find the front desk staff particularly friendly but the weight staff totally made up for it. Fantastic locale right on North State in River North. Try the warm soft pretzels!
