Inclusion and participation are core values of democracy and peace. Do you want to make Canada a better place? Practice inclusion and participate!
As Margaret Mead once said: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has”. Happy Democracy Day!

One year ago today, all 193 Member States of the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Sustainable Development Goal 16 addresses democracy by calling for inclusive and participatory societies and institutions. It aims to “promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels”.

Where are the good jobs for young people?
Young Canadians are not finding jobs that make use of their skills. According to the report Diving without a parachute: Young Canadians versus a precarious economy released by the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), almost a third of young workers are in temporary jobs.
"Despite being the most educated generation in history, their unemployment rate is consistently double that of core-age workers, and although young workers make up only 15% of Canada’s workforce, they represent over a quarter of Canada’s unemployed. When they do find work there’s a good chance it’s a precarious job for which they are overqualified. They are forced to settle for temporary jobs with unpredictable schedules and no access to benefits".
“Young workers are dealing with exceptionally high rates of unemployment or underemployment and have been for many years. They are also carrying unbelievably high levels of student debt; the average student graduates owing over $25,000. We are not setting young people up for success,” said Hassan Yussuff, president of the CLC.
