Hey everyone,

As the worst of Hurricane Irene seems to have passed, the degree of its destruction begins to come to light. The devastation seen across the North East is, in a word, historic. There are currently over a dozen towns in Vermont (including my hometown) cut off due to bridge collapses and entirely washed out roads, with another 3-4 towns similarly isolated across upstate New York. Millions remain without power, with a fix not expected for days to weeks in some areas. The hardest hit towns have been asked to conserve water, as the destruction to their respective water supply systems is remedied.

Today 30 FEMA trucks reached Vermont with emergency supplies to be distributed to the people and communities still reeling from the aftermath of Irene. As the National Guard attempts to deliver these limited supplies to cut off towns, thousands more flooding victims remain at Red Cross shelters awaiting infrastructure repairs that will allow them to retreat to less effected areas.

Though the storm has passed, it is a long road to recovery for many people and communities. In this time of tragedy, support by those not directly effected by Irene is just as important as the resilience of her victims. I encourage all of my fellow Googlers to help in whatever way they can and keep the victims of Hurricane Irene in their thoughts.

Below are links to two Hurricane Irene Disaster Relief funds set up to turn donations into tangible, life-saving emergency supplies:

Thank you to everyone,
