I love the Transformation Studio! Sarah (owner and professional makeup artist) is extremely talented!! She has all of the best training, years of experience and knows EXACTLY what she is doing! It amazes me every time I watch her transform somebody-in minutes! Tomee is the hairstylist and receptionist..such a sweet, light spirited woman who will make you feel welcomed. I attended makeup classes at the studio and now am auditing some (just to get more info I may have missed, and more practice). I love that she has an open door policy, and once you pay for a class, you can attend the same one again at no cost. She's put a great curriculum together and covers all of the things that I think should be covered. Sarah is so compassionate and it shows in her work and lifestyle! She truly does care about people and wants to help as much as she possibly can. I would strongly recommend TTS to anyone who needs to get their makeup done for any reason, or for anyone interested in taking makeup classes and getting certified. As long as you are willing to put in the time, effort, and PRACTICE, Sarah is willing to go the extra mile to help you out and answer any questions you may have!

sarah did the makeup for my wedding and i completely loved it. i wanted something natural-looking but also dramatic enough to come out well in pictures. sarah made me feel completely comfortable. she took the time to listen to what i wanted, and with her own expertise, the finished look was absolutely perfect. i was so afraid of having a makeup artist that would bully me into looking a way that made me feel ugly (too bold or bright colors don't suit my skintone), but sarah was very attentive and her primary goal was to make sure that i felt beautiful on my special day. i was so thankful for that. we were also on a time crunch, but she finished everything with time to spare (super important). she also gave me touch-up materials. i was extremely satisfied with the results and had a really great experience.

Very disappointed. It's taken over a year for me to write this review, but I've finally gotten around to it. I would recommend extreme caution to book Sarah for hair and makeup. I booked her services for makeup and hair for my bridal and engagement pictures (both shot on the same day). It also served as a trial run for me for my actual wedding day. Brides-if there's ever a doubt, do a trial-well worth it! She had originally told me that and I quote "I'm not the best with hair, and I have a girl who will do that for you, but I will be doing your makeup". I gave Sarah pictures of how I wanted my hair and makeup to look like ahead of time, so she could give it to the lady who was supposed to be working on my hair. When the day came we (my sister and law and I) arrived and there was no other hair lady-Sarah forgot to book her. Sarah immediately said she could take over those services (which I was skeptical of based on her previous self deprecating remarks but having little choice I decided to go with it). I should have ran. Sarah also lost the pictures I had given her days before so I had to verbalize how I wanted everything to look. She took about 4 hours trying to execute a simple updo-and failed miserably. She applied a ton of hair products, slides etc and in the end one side of my hair kept falling. She finally told me that I would need a hair piece bc I didn't have enough hair on the right side of my head?? I ended up going with Beautiful Face for my hair and makeup for the wedding day (absolutely fantastic btw), they confirmed to me what Sarah had done was total crap, and that I definitely had more than enough hair to pull off an updo (I have thick hair past my shoulders). What a pathetic avoidance, I was so disappointed that she couldn't be honest with me about her lack of aptitude. She rushed through my makeup for the last 10 min, and it was ok. She had implied to me earlier before the appointment that she had airbrushing services but at this time she said she didn't use airbrushing bc it caused cancer (wth??). The makeup she did for the photoshoot was very heavy in person and my lips were not glossy-she instead used a powder based lip liner that ended up looking rather cakey in person which I had to remove and redo in the middle of the photo shoot bc it had dried and turned flakey. It turned out ok in the pictures. Also, I had to end up having my photographer postpone the photoshoot several hours that day bc my hair and makeup had ran so late (almost 2 hours over!), and in the middle of it my hair fell out completely so I had to redo it myself-with a half down half up do which I could have done at home. My photographer had drove in from Dallas just for this shoot and was leaving the next day, we were paying her by the hour. For close to 200 bucks for a trial run of hair and makeup it was the most cheated I had felt in a long time. Sarah be honest with your clients next time, and don't take on more than you know you're qualified to handle!

Response from the owner - 2 years ago
Hi, This is a review of a service you are reporting to have had done over a year ago so I am unable to remember who you are, otherwise I would perhaps remembered this and looked up your info to call you to apologize. I wish I had known that you were unhappy at the time of the service or had reached out to us in any form about this experience during this past year. For the record, as a new business we are honored to have received over 130 positive reviews, this is the first negative review written about my work or my personality. Id like to comment on a few points made. To make lipstick last longer, there is a certain technique of first applying primer, liner, lipstick and then mattting down a lipstick with a similar blush/powder color makes it last longer. Its a professional application that is trained in makeup schools to make a lipstick stay throughout photography, an event and eating. Sorry that you didnt like the texture. We do airbrush makeup on a routinely basis, yes it had been linked to cancer in previous research, but I never would say that it causes cancer. I did remember reading about it a while ago and that did cause me to hold back for several months because I would never want to do a service that even had a small chance to harm a client. This was only because I care about people's wellness. We charge an additional amount to do airbrush, since the equipment and products cost over $600, so I could easily upsell clients but I literally stopped offering it till I could be sure it was safe. I read more on the topic and know that its safe when done occasionally, just to be safe we are now switching to a mineral based airbrush formula. Most clients email us images of inspired looks and those images brought in are attached to contracts so Im not sure how any pics could have been lost. About the hair aptmt.. all things are written in the computer system so Im not sure how this happened. If I was aware of your makeup aptmt, how could i forget about the hair aptmt? In the beginning of our business we were shortstaffed and we had freelance stylists, could it be that my stylist did not come in for some reason, I don't forget to make aptmts, and I have no recollection of this. Also, as you noted, Im not a hairstylist, Im a professional makeup artist, I do simple styling, curling and updos on straight or wavy hair. I did state that from the beginning so if you were reluctant, it was not necessary for me to style your hair and I would have just set you a hair aptmt at a nearby salon, there are at least six within a 2 mile radius. I would have to argue that it was impossible for me to spend 4 hours doing hair and 10 minutes doing makeup. I have never spent more then 1.5 hours on hairstyling before. If you stated there was a $200 charge, that would mean you were getting level 2($75) or 3 ($125) makeup done which requires 45 minutes to an 1 hour to complete at least... hairstyling is generally up to $50. If youre stating it was a trial then our hair trial is generally $50 and our makeup trial is a set price of $50, so that just doesnt add up to $200. If the hair was simply not to your liking you could have asked for me to stop, told me while checking out that you were dissatisfied and I would not charge you. We now have a fulltime cosmetologist working so this is not something any future bride would need to be warned about. Yes all prospective brides are recommended to do a trial for hair and makeup, which is pretty standard. As a business owner, I dont take negative reviews lightly and will be feeling tension till I am able to make things better with you, after all youve carrying this upsetness with the business for over a year. Please call us if you read this response and I will gladly credit you back for your services. This business means everything to me and I care deeply about customers being satisfied. A bad review is very hurtful to a new business and this is my livelihood. I again apologize for your hairstyle not being done properly and causing any inconvenience to you.

Transformation Studio Academy is definitely a great school for makeup artists. I love how Sarah teaches. I've learned a great deal at an affordable price. Really, you can't go wrong. There's so much about makeup, I didn't know about. If you want to be a makeup artist, I'd strongly suggest you take Sarah's Courses. Not only that, Chamak products are fantastic. My favorite are the eyeshadow. I thank Sarah a great deal of what she has given me. It's been an honor being your student. :)

We had a fantastic experience with the studio. We booked a small party for a friend's birthday - it included a belly dancing lesson, a catered dinner for 4, and henna tattoos. The owner even decorated for our small event. She was a wonderful hostess and I was shocked at the low low price charged for the entire evening. I would not hesitate to book another party here.
