Beautiful hidden away location. Every dish was excellently prepared and fresh. Service was extremely polite but at a slower, calmer pace than most restaurants. Great chance to just enjoy the experience. Five stars all around, just keep in mind it's not the type of place to go if you're in any kind of rush to be anywhere afterwards.

Pretty trendy place, but the unique dishes were delicious! The ambiance was cool, and the food came out fast. I had a fresh and decadent meal, that's for sure.

Went here for my last birthday, and had a fantastic time. Beautiful environment, very intimate setting. We sat at the bar, but the service was great, our waitress helped us pick out a range of dishes to try, and was very attentive all evening, without feeling intrusive. I'd highly recommend the sweet potato tempura, the red snapper served with cherry blossoms, the pork belly and of course some sushi (we had salmon). This is now my favorite Japanese restaurant in the city.

The Kyo Ya is one of the best Japanese restaurant in New York. The Chief Chef is a nice guy, very kindly and provides us with the great foods made by his excellent skill. I am a Japanese, and I think the foods are good for the world.

Very good food and great service as well. Servers are very helpful if you don't know what to get. They give personal suggestions and great descriptions of the food. The restaurant itself is a little small. I could see it getting a little hectic in there when it is busy, but it is very easy to look past when you taste the food. It is expensive and portions are small so if you want the full experience plan on spending a lot. In my opinion it is worth the money.

Went in there and asked the waiter to choose the food for us. Have never had better Japanese food - not even in Japan.

A true hidden East Village sushi gem. The Kaiseki dinner is the way to go here, but you can order many of the dishes on their a la carte for a fraction of the price.

I don't know why people hype this place so much. It's a typical cutesy Japanese place, except with smaller portions and a longer wait. Dishes came out at a snail's pace, and the guy in our group left still starving. He went across the street to get a lobster roll after dinner. Seriously.
