Nice, with some AI difficulties and online play, top lists etc.

“Will dig coal for food.” – Thomas Spitzer's Haspelknecht at our biweekly gaming group.

One of the bigger games I purchased in Essen. Played it twice now. While not overly innovative, it's a solid and beautiful Euro with a nice theme. Want to play more :)

Some impressions of our biweekly gaming group event last Sunday.

Pictured:

- Lumis: a two-team abstract with nice pieces. Tense, a little random. We won, barely.

- Metro: light family-style track/route-building game. Fun, although most points won were basically gifts by the other players who unintentionally work for instead of against me.

- Port Royal with "The Gambler" promo cards: My Top 3 game from last year. Again a success with 3 new gamers. Looking forward to add the full expansion, which I own but didn't bring in for the new players, soon.

- The Last Spike: new game in an 80s look – which I don't mind, but the components are ridiculously... uninspired and the cardboard and stickers plain bad. The game is a very quick train-themed stock-holding game. I got mixed responses (the "art" really does not help); I think I like it. It's very streamlined, has good player interaction (outguessing, balance between working together and working against others); but in the end it's a filler.

Not pictured: Arboretum, a tense and sometimes mean card game; mathy and the end game scoring is tricky, at least when playing it the first time. It's probably brilliant, but also brain burning. Not sure yet. I lost my 2p game 3:12 pts.

I also taught La Granja (w/ promo cards) to a group of 4 new players, of which 3 liked it (one was "okay"). I love it, but didn't mind not playing it for 3h+ with new people this time ;)

La Granja. Final configuration of my farm that got me 71 VP. Wasted some goods in the end, and one unused market barrow…
