47,000 words on The Curious Case of Mary Ann. Wanted to be further along but was too busy to write over the weekend. Lazy bugger.

I'm still working on this. I need another coat of paint, some heart shaped gems, sealant and a mirror, and this will be a prop for my future book cover. I would like to do a photo including this for the cover of my next book. Something Lewis Carroll-ish but not cartoony. We'll see how it goes.

Sometimes I hurt for my own characters. Even in humorous sci-fi/fantasy, there are moments I think, "Geez, this person got a raw deal."

Just a little blog post about the book signing that happened over the weekend...

Someone asked me yesterday at the book signing about when writers say the characters talk to them and write the book themselves-- whether that's a real thing or not. Interestingly, I have always had some opinions on that topic.

While I've had characters do things that surprised me, there was nothing mystical about it-- it was an impulse that moment when a flash of an idea strikes and it gets put down on paper. I think when folks talk about books writing themselves, they don't give enough credit to how much their subconscious has been working on the themes in the background.

It was a good time. Got to talk to a book club who likes scifi, met some young readers who are trying the books and who asked insightful questions, some friends from Pittsburgh came all the way out to be supportive, saw relatives I hadn't seen in a while, and got to hang out with the lovely people of the shop, as well as my aunt, uncle and cousins. I'm very tired but it was a positive experience.

They're going to have my books available for sale for a while on the shop. There was some discussion of possibly doing something for the Wonderland themed book I'm working on for next spring.

I wanted a dark green pen for my book signing tomorrow and instead came away with Pen-apolooza. Ridiculously over-preparing in the only anxious, neurotic way I know how. But look! So pretty!

This is so cool-- an artisan is doing a themed giveaway associated with my book signing tomorrow! https://www.facebook.com/ThereGoestheGalaxy/posts/1221199921266673

Watching the movie The Boy. As far as supernatural suspense goes, this one has my attention.
