4/5. This place has excellent ambient lighting and decent music. I spent NYE here and it was not too crowded. Staff does have to walk back and forth from the floor to the kitchen which did disturb our table service experience. They did excellent cleaning up the creepy folks and alcohol spills.

Super cool theme idea for a bar with walls filled with books and a wall full of old school type-writers. Try and get there before 10:30pm on weekends because the line to get in can get super long. Great on week nights when it is less crowded because there is more room to dance and booths to sit at.

I got so excited when I stepped into this hidden gem in hollywood!!!! THANK GOD the long line we saw from across the street wasn't for Hemingway Lounge but the club next door. We walked right into the bar. A group of us went on a Thursday night bar-hop-venture and this was our first stop. Wasn't expecting to step into a room covered with bookshelves and vintage type writer. It's been a while since I was wow'd by an interior because I usually know what to expect thanks to my addiction to yelp. ::ATMOSPHERE:: - Felt like i was in a classy vintage-y library, with lots of space to lounge with a big group of people on a weeknight. - artsy displays of typewriters on the wall - chill - the first room you walk into seems like it's the smoking area - i think we stood out because we were the only asian (plus Matt P. crowd) peeps ::COCKTAIL:: - def did not like that one drink with absinthe in it BLEH - Garden of Eve was fruity and sweet, can't taste the alcohol - the bartendar made something special and not on the menu for my sister, all I know is it had peach snapp and I WANT MORE OF IT. ::MUSIC:: - i think it was a mix of 90s and edm, sadly no one was dancing....except 2 drunkies from our group

Great ambiance, went here for an event and really liked the space (what's not love about a room full of books?). As I went for an event can't attest to wait times etc, but there was a line of people waiting when I went in and when I left.

I dread Hollywood! I dread the parking, I dread the crowds, I dread the tourists, I dread the lines, I dread paying covers (unless you have a hook-up which I refuse cause I dread promoters), and most of all I dread having to get glitzy just to be seen.... But Hemingway's isn't like your typical Hollywood lounge! I came here on a Saturday night and was not disappointed. Parking (check) - There's valet on Ivar at Beso and a parking structure also located on Ivar. Both are worth it to avoid pricey tickets at the ever-so-confusing meters. Lines (check) - Well my group was already inside so I just bossed up on the bouncer and acted as if I already belonged inside. He let me through but told me next time I would have to stand in line. Yea next time.... No COVER (check)- One of the best things about this place! No cover = no hassle. Hemingway's has an eclectic mix of music from O.T. Genasis to EDM. Music for every mood and they mix it very well! I had a great time (sober I may add). Come here if you wanna dance for free! Note: There are two bars; one by the main dancing floor and one located near the smoking patio which has chairs and couches for those who want to socialize without the loud music. They also have a bathroom attendant but please ladies act sanitary. Overall fun times.

I would like to give this establishment a NEGATIVE star. The Caucasian doorman (stated name Luke Cook) at this lounge/bar didn't allow my husband, myself nor another gentleman of African-American descent to enter the facility on Saturday evening, 2/8/2014. He stated "I'm unable to help you this evening" because of the way we were dressed apparently. Prior to heading to this lounge/bar (note: does NOT promote itself as a club), I checked the dress code, and there was NOTHING listed on their website or Facebook page regarding specific attire. I wore California, casual clothing (black leather style top w/metallic studs, tight jeans, oxfords)-not anything offensive, beach attire or with inappropriate slogans or a hat. I rocked my curly 'fro, big chunky earrings and carried a clutch. My husband and another gentleman both wore dark wash jeans, casual shoes (not tennis shoes) and sweaters-nothing inappropriate there either. I viewed the doorman allowing multiple Caucasian persons enter the establishment with t-shirts, denim shorts and unkempt hair under the auspices that "they bought a table" (his exact words). This condescending Australian/New Zealander/possibly South African-accented doorman didn't provide information regarding table purchase/bottle service as though he expected none of us could afford it ($250 table purchase is VERY reasonable-in Las Vegas a table purchase can run between $750-$1,000). His behavior was discriminatory, prejudicial, offensive and racist. His attitude was completely uncalled for and unacceptable in 2014. I've filed a complaint with the local BBB chapter to rectify the situation, but my husband and I will NEVER go back to this business again. It's not worth it and there are far better lounges in the city than this. *SIDENOTE* Hubby and I were trying to attend a friend’s birthday. The 30+ person group that we tried to be a part of is FILLED with producers, scouts, actors, cinematographers, etc. My husband is a producer with a network also. Guess what establishment WON'T ever be considered for a future event? Karma know *shrugs*.
