Stayed here this summer and can honestly tell you that this is one of the best resorts we've visited in Northern Minnesota! Not the most fanciest. So if you're looking for 5 stars, I might recommend you stay at the Hilton. This is perfect for a Minnesota getaway for sure. The staff was supper amazing - John and Kristi will literally go out of his way to help you out. The dock staff was always right there when we needed him, too. Only downside, The food trailer wasn't fully up and running with the grill, but just ice cream, which was still great to have. We'll be booking a week next year!

Have stayed at Sunset 20+ times in the last 13 years. My family stays there for deer hunting, and with my snowmobile club and friends riding sleds. It's my home away from home. I recommend this place to many. The winter rates for sledding are amazing. They can accommodate groups big and small. We had 25 one year and never felt cramped. Give this resort a try if you are looking for a room with a view.

Best Resort in Minnesota! John and Kristi are awesome. They are very friendly and made our stay enjoyable. Thanks again Sunset Resort!!! Wow what is with these false reports and personal attacks on John and Kristi. They are not even close to those descriptive words used. They are an older couple, grandparents in fact. They are very down to earth and work hard to make your stay enjoyable. Don't Believe!!! Defamation in Minnesota is anything that directs hate, contempt, degradation, or disgrace or degradation to a person or business. According to Minnesota State statutes, defamation, slander, and libel are deemed to be a criminal offense punishable by a fine of no more than $3,000 and/or 1 year in prison for anyone found guilty of defamation of character. The same holds true for defaming a business entity. Business entities can file defamation, libel, and slander complaints in Minnesota. In cases of slander, at least two people must testify they heard and interpreted the defamatory statements made against the plaintiff were indeed defamatory. Minnesotans have two years from the time he alleged defamatory statement was made to file a complaint against the defendant in accordance with Minnesota state law.

My wife and I were looking for a place to get away and have some quality alone time - without distractions - to reconnect and set the direction of the next year. We are currently living in northern Minnesota, and wanted to find somewhere relatively close, and were told about the Sunset Resort by a friend who had gone there in years past. It did not disappoint. The facilities are friendly and welcoming, and the management - Tom - is more than accommodating. We took advantage of the special winter rates (3 nights for 2 adults for around $200 was a steal last year!) If you go on the weekend, be prepared for lots of snowmobile traffic. If sledding is you thing, look no further! They have premium sled gas right at the lodge, and many other parties were there for the wonderful riding on the Ash River itself. Not having a sled, we looked at rending one from one of the neighboring resorts, but seeing as we were on a budget - decided against it this time. Maybe next year! We are planning our return, and tell everyone we know about the excellent service. It's nothing extravagant, but for a nice, clean, quiet cabin out in the woods, it was exactly what the doctor ordered!

Been there many times and it's a wonderful place to stay. Sheltered from storms or rough water gives you premium boat protection. Gas and electricty right on the docks. Cabins are great and its just a wonderful place to stay if you love fishing and the great outdoors. You'll meet great neighbors that are seasonal guests and the best owners in the world with John and Kristi..... which have become friends for life. I consider this place one of the great places in my life and look forward to my trip each year. Roger in Tennessee

We stayed at Sunset Resort last year around the 4th of July and have come to book again. I usually don't write reviews but because our experiences was more than what we expected, we feel that Sunset deserves our families thumbs up! We live about 5 hours away so traveling here took most of the day. Booking our trip and reading all the positive reviews, we figured that this would be a great place to try. We were greeted by the owners, John and Kristi, who Are the most friendliest, down-to-earth people you'll ever meet. We stayed in the large cabin (10) on the water front with one amazing view of the river and cliff. Cabin was clean, cozy, nothing fancy; just what we needed! The most important thing was our kids LOVED it here. John let them participate in the annual 4th of July parade, which they still talk about...The best place by far to go by far in Northern Minnesota!
