A master copy of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's Portrait of Vincent van Gough.

~

I drew this early last year, based on a technique I read about in 'Lessons in Classical Drawing', by Juliette Aristides, called Mastercopy. The concept is to create a 'copy' of a famous piece of artwork, by only looking at it. Of course, I chose a portrait van Gough, one of my favorite artists. The lesson is a great exercise for drawing in general, but I especially gained a great understanding of portrait drawing. Comments and critique are welcome.

And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

Genesis 1:14-19

I began this project nearly a year ago on Strathmore Bristol Board and completed it earlier this year digitally inking the piece in Manga Studios with the Intuos 5 Tablet. Comments and critique are welcome.
