Agreed, the "shuffle artist" option was one thing I really thought made this service worth paying for. Is it gone?

Where did the shuffle artist button go?

Hey, did Google+ finally stop showing a notification for every time you get a new follower? Looks that way. YAY! Most new followers are bots or spammers anyway, I've found. I don't need to see that as a notification. Annoyed me to always see that red "1" in the Google toolbar, like a distant car alarm that never stops...

On a cursory glance, I don't see where to control notifications under the gear menu -- and something like that shouldn't take more than a cursory glance, IMHO

Interesting: "The data show that a “student’s being an underrpresented minority is not a good proxy for his being low-income. Thus, if a college wants its student body to exhibit income diversity commensurate with the income diversity among high achievers, it cannot possibly attain this goal simply by recruiting students who are underrepresented minorities. If admissions staff do most of their outreach to low-income students by visiting schools that are largely Hispanic and black, the staff should realize that this strategy is likely to lead to a student body that is not income-diverse.”

My latest KDMC post on digital tools for journos & news orgs that opt to go the #truthvigilante route. I talk to +Dan Schultz of the MIT Media Lab about a bleeding edge tool he's building: Truth Goggles, which (if it works) could function as an automatic bullshit detector for news consumers. Bold idea, but intriguing.

A bullshit detector would be nice..... I'd like to see one applied to news photos also

Seriously. As if the news business wasn't already Kafkaesque. Well, AP is an appropriate choice for this.

Having done some critical coverage of several boneheaded AP strategies in digital media over the last few years, I think they see eye to eye with NK regarding the dangers of criticism, and how to respond to it...

Having lived through some of APs more adventurous forays into digital media strategies under Tom Curley and Kathleen Carroll, I would be really interested in reading your critical coverage.

It's hard when the only sincere thing you can say is "Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.".

Story
Introduction
I like connecting ideas and tools and playing with them, seeing where they lead and what they do. Especially ideas and tools for how people connect, communicate, and create meaning and value.  This takes me in all sorts of interesting directions. I started out in media and journalism, but it's been a wild ride since that origin.

I'm constantly in search of inspiration, collaboration, and doable projects.

Right now I'm most intrigued by what people can do with mobile media -- especially inexpensive feature phones.
