This month, the children at our toddler and preschool site have been working on the origin of food. They made delicious cupcakes, apple pies and lemonade, which they 'sold' to each other. They created different types of hen houses for their little hen friends and also generated some 'eggs'. Both rooms participated in some science experiments with colour and wind. They really enjoyed their cooking sessions, where they reinforced the importance of sharing, teamwork and taking turns.

The Baby Room children took advantage of the warmer weather and spent more time than usual in the park over the past weeks - make hay while the sun shines! They had their snacks on the lawn, some of which they even prepared themselves. Back at the nursery, a treasure hunt for wild animals had them in fits of laughter, as they explored the paper maze that was set up. And the fun continues...

The children at our Toddler & Preschool site celebrated Earth Day, indulging in a number of sensory activities. They loved to explore the different aspects of life, both animal life and life, through hands-on experiences. They even got to make their own friendship bracelets, observe a family of snails and create their own little Earth map!

In the Baby Room, we have been indulging in some new and interesting activities over the Easter period and thanks to the (slightly) warmer weather. The children have decorating Easter eggs with coloured rice, decorating trees by stamping all over them with the bottom of a plastic bottle to form flower buds. They mixed different things with water to see what happens, played with coloured ice and formed fun bubbles by blowing into water - what a blast they had! So much play, so much excitement, so much learning!

What an eventful few weeks we’ve experienced at the nursery and that was before the snow fell! We celebrated World Book Day, where the children were given the opportunity to recreate the most interesting moments from their favourite stories, to making footprints in the snow to a variety of experiments. It’s been quite hectic but also so much fun.

Last month, the children in the Toddler and Preschool setting celebrated Tu B' Shevat, the Jewish commemoration of the 'New Year' for trees. This is the day when the earliest-blooming trees begin their fruit-bearing process after the winter months. The children marked the day by planting different seeds and experimenting the right environment for a seed. They planted seeds in flour, sand, cotton and soil and, since then, they have excitedly noticed that in only two of the pots have the seeds started growing.

The children in the baby room undertook many messy play activities last month. The majority were influenced by the monthly theme, which was Weather and Clothes. The activities were carefully planned for them and were a mixture of both child-initiated and adult-led activities. Needless to say, they had lots of fun, especially when using their feet to paint! Imagine doing that at home!!!

The toddlers and preschool children were recently introduced to simple scientific experiments that prompted them to explore and question the world around them. They observed how magnetism works, carefully examined our self-made lungs, discussed things that can be dissolved in water, learned how to create optical illusions by making a cage for a parrot and observed how a light can create a amazing effects. They had fun exploring static electricity using a balloon and used a 'sky diver' to see how gravitation law can be tricked.

Recently, the children have been improving their cooking skills by making pizzas and soup and baking different cakes using a variety of ingredients. They spoke about how and where ingredients are kept and where they come from. They even had an amazing opportunity to pretend to milk a cow while learning about the process. They loved every minute of it all!
