I'm a business owner, consultant and author. The people, teams and companies I typically work with are changing more rapidly than they were prepared to, whether they want to change, or must. We assess their situation, aspirations, and the barriers that are holding them back. Then we zero in on a way for them to reach their goals, get the work underway, and soon, they're moving forward again.
I started my first business, a cookie business, when I was 12, and my second one, a freelance writing and small business marketing company in the midwest after getting a journalism and business degree at Iowa State. After my husband and I moved to CA, I completed an MBA at UC Berkeley, and worked at Apple Computer for seven years. Among the work I did at Apple was to evaluate and improve major business processes in product development, manufacturing, product distribution, finance and administration, marketing, sales, real estate and leasing.
In the early years of my current business, I was also a five-year national examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Funded by the US Department of Commerce, the Badrige Award recognized full-organization performance excellence and its importance for national performance and competitiveness. So many things I learned through the Baldrige experience have been valuable in my work with clients and volunteer activities, as well.
I wrote and photographed my first book a few years ago. It's "Fresh Eyes: See a moment. Take a moment. Give a moment." The photo on the cover is of a cloud I saw one day that looked, amazingly, like a hand in the sky. When she saw that photo, a good friend said, "You HAVE to do something with this!" Eventually, that photo led to creating the book. Soon, that book led to creating a course and mentoring program, "The Fresh Eyes Process." It's designed for people and teams going through major changes and transitions, often in their work, and sometimes, in the personal lives.
My second book is based on the experience I've had baking biscotti for nearly two decades for clients, family, friends, and many others in the community (I figured out recently I've made and given away about 30,000 biscotti...and I'm still baking. I had no idea it had added up to be so many, one cookie, one recipe at a time. Clearly, my recipes are well-tested!). The book is available as a Kindle ebook, "Biscotti! Great Recipes and Tips for Baking the Top 12 Biscotti Flavors." I'll be doing a second edition, probably in 2015, and it will include the best 100 biscotti recipes I've collected or created and tested.
