Recently, here in Vancouver, B.C., we collectively voted down an initiate that would have greatly increased investment in mass transit infrastructure. My initial reaction (I voted yes) was, "How could we be so short-sighted!!"
But when I pulled back, and looked at things from a longer window, I became more convinced that not
spending that money on infrastructure was a good
thing, given that it will likely be made redundant by the radical changes in the auto-transportation industry.
It's getting hard to think of many industries that do not have to seriously rethink their investment frameworks for infrastructure, be it soft or hard, human or otherwise.
