Uganda spirit packaging line goes live.

Our team in Uganda have achieved first bottle and production on the spirit packaging line at Uganda Breweries Limited in Kampala.

The project was installed in an extremely challenging timeline and involved design and build of process installation together with the integration and assembly of the production line, supplied by SSP.

Well done to Dave Clark and Conor Curtin who, with the support of Declan Grennan FDT and local contractors Meridian and Kemgro, achieved this important milestone.

The line was officially opened by Ugandan Minister for Trade and Commerce, Hon. Amelia Kyambadde and Diageo President of Africa, John O'Keefe.

Apprentices from Designer Group scoop the top prize at the inaugural Generation Apprenticeship Awards!

Congratulations to Conor Cregan and Mark Fitzgerald, who took home 1st prize for their mechanical entry 'Sustainable A' at the Generation Apprenticeship Awards presentation on Monday evening, 30th April. This is a wonderful recognition for the hours of work Conor and Mark put in over the last few months taking their model from design concept drawing right through to final build.

The competition was judged by Irish architect Dermot Bannon, Microsoft Senior Executive Noreen O'Hare and SOLAS Chief Executive Paul O'Toole.

Congratulations must also go to our other competition finalists, Stephen Mullery and Andrew Hogan, who embraced the challenge with equal effort over the past few months and who impressed the judges with the calibre of their electrical competition entry 'Intelligent A'

We are extremely proud of you all on this well-deserved achievement.

Larkin Community College invite Designer Group to meet with Leaving Certificate students

Brendan Kearns (Training Director), Fiona Ebbs (Human Resources) and Travis Fitzgerald (a 1st year electrical apprentice) enjoyed chatting to Leaving Certificate students at Larkin Community College in Dublin recently about the range of careers and opportunities available to them with Designer Group. The students heard about the expectations and requirements needed when applying for jobs and Travis was able to answer questions they had about the day to day life of an apprentice.

We wish the students the best of luck in their upcoming exams and look forward to meeting them again should they pursue the apprenticeship route.

April 28th is Workers' Memorial Day whereby we remember those who have been killed or injured in work-related accidents around the world. Last year alone 47 people were killed at work in Ireland.

At Designer Group the safety, health and welfare of our people is our top priority and we never compromise in this regard.

A series of toolbox talks will take place around our business today to raise awareness of the importance of occupational health and safety for all and at 12pm all sites will have a one minute stand down.

"If the job cannot be done safely, we don't start it."
