A couple of weeks ago my friends and I were headed to upstate NY from Boston and wanted a bite to eat. Consulting the google map, we saw a strip of restaurants off Route 90. Cal's seemed like it was exactly what we were looking for. After a miserable 20 minutes with a bartender who was either totally unaware of how inattentive he was or simply didn't care, we found the manager to lodge a complaint. In what can only be described as a zen-like maneuver, we went from being fuming mad w/ our coats in hand (we couldn't even flag the bartender down to get our bill and to cancel the food order that he half took) to being whizzed to a table (the restaurant was full and there was a wait) and taken care of like royalty. From James, the manager, to the servers and bus people, the service from that point was amazing. And it was evident from watching them work the room, it wasn't just us getting great service. And the food was delicious and the servings ample to boot. Thanks to James, a quick thinking, service oriented manager and an attentive service staff (the food came quickly too) our experience at Cal's went from awful to amazing. So thank you James for giving a great start to our vacation weekend!

as a person who is both adventurous but also suspicious of the unknown, comedy clubs, for me, are a pure reflection of that paradox. my girlfriend and i recently did the 'date-night' thing where we went to mottley's for pre-dinner and drinks and wound up there for the duration and literally busted a gut with laughter. the drink service was probably too efficient (rather than flag down your server or have him/her coming through every five minutes to check on you while subsequently ruining the show, they have a neat little light, not unlike you'd find in hospitals and on airplanes, that you press and presto! drinks are served.) we walked out of mottley's in a great mood, enjoyed the hell out of the rest of our night and now we're going to corral our friends and bring an even larger group. starting your night with live comedy really puts a great spin on the rest of the night. the only downside is that we attempted to buy the owner's CD (he did a very funny opening set that night) and he had none. gushing aside. great night. great club. great fun. as its been said here on the web: lmao.

They may do floral arrangements well, but don't count on them to contact you back when you reach out for a delivery.
