What would you say if I suggested farmers start using a compound that could mess with your hormones in order to improve crop yields? More analysis here: http://societyofbiologyblog.org/a-precautionary-tale/

I think it's far better to diversify crops - are different types of potatoes resistant to blight?

I'd worry that if we they did develop a GM strain of potatoes that were resistant then we'd become dependent on them, plant them en masse and then disaster would ensue when nature found a way and the "blight resistant" potatoes were infected by a new blight.

Introduction
I graduated from the University of Durham and then studied for an ecology PhD at Rothamsted Research. I spent my time chasing migrant butterflies in the UK and Gibraltar. I plan to save the world, and am still working out how. In the meantime I write fiction about science and create science jewellery: http://rebeccanesbit.com/sciart/
