IBM and a carmaker called Local Motors are developing a self-driving bus equipped with assistive technologies for people with visual, hearing, physical, and cognitive disabilities. Their goal? To make the bus the world’s most accessible vehicle, and convince cities to integrate it into their public transportation systems. I wrote about how they’re doing it:

My latest story looks at tiny, super durable, low powered microphones that would let you take your Amazon Tap speaker to the beach or leave it in your backyard during the summer. You could also keep the Tap on always-listening, hands-free mode and get 28 days of battery life out of it instead of 11 hours. That’s the promise of piezoelectric MEMS microphones:
