Since when did promote and "provide for" become synonymous? Furthermore  "the Preamble serves solely as an introduction, and does not assign powers to the federal government, nor does it provide specific limitations on government action. Due to the Preamble's limited nature, no court has ever used it as a decisive factor in case adjudication"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preamble_to_the_United_States_Constitution
My neighbor seems to think that socialized medicine is in the Constitution, based on a deliberate misinterpretation of a passage in the preamble (written at a time when there wasn't even an income tax, never mind FICA, to pay for such a thing.)

Additionally, our imperial leader has ordained that "generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. [It] says what the states can’t do to you. [It] says what the federal government can’t do to you, but [it] doesn’t say what the federal government or state government must do on your behalf."

The US currently burns 1.121 billion tons of coal per year producing electricity. Coal which is mined right here in the USA. This could be converted to oil at a rate of 1.5 tons per barrel, giving us about 4.6 million barrels per day. Which is about 23% of what we currently use and about 60% of what we're currently importing at a hundred bucks per barrel.
The electricity production could be replaced with a mixture of nuclear, natural gas, wind, solar, hydroelectric etc. Just a thought.

It wouldn't let me unfortunately. I said as much in my very first post a minute later, where I included the link I just referenced. Anyhow South Africa has been doing this for decades and there are 2 plants currently being built in the US. As the world's 2nd largest producer of coal and with the world's largest coal reserves, it only makes sense. Combined with the 1.5 to 2.6 trillion barrels of oil shale reserves in this country and our current fracking capabilities, it is rather silly to still be importing oil from the Middle East.

At some point this president needs to learn that the House is not there simply to rubber stamp his edicts. Now is as good a time as any.

+Joanne Edison-Brown  I don't think you know what mean is. And I think it's interesting you still haven't answered my questions. However,  if you feel picked on or treated unjustly I do apologize.
I never argued about the correctness of his or your statement. As long as we can agree Obama's comment was about  wealth redistribution, I'm golden.
Knowing you are one of those grammar nazi types help's me understand why you felt a need to tells us facts we already knew.

Thought of having some T-shirts made up. Two short lines. First one "your point," second one "get to it." Just might save me a headache or two.

I hear a lot about "free" healthcare in England. It seems to me that they are forced to buy health insurance from the government when they are young and are unlikely to need it, but are increasingly being denied health care when they are old and really do.

Hip replacements, cataract surgery and tonsil removal are among operations now being rationed in a bid to save the NHS money.
