if you have to ask why its expensive then you are not really a photographer. i believe leicas to be the pinnacle of design. every corner of that camera was planned and executed with purpose. Its machined Brass and hand assembled.  the optics are perfection. Leica optics is what all others are judged by. I prefer my leica camera over anything else. They are just that good. save up and buy one. it will change your life.

you can change the shutter via the thumb wheel like you do on a d4. the only bit to get used to is the aperture wheel which is reminiscent of the Contax G2 focus wheel. its dressed to look retro but im sure you will find it performing just as good and as fast as your modern bodies.

My Dream NIKON F3D (digital) top plate - ISO dial, ev value knob, shutter knob with added letter A for Manual and the max sync speed marked in RED on shutter dial. on off switch with with classic shutter button.
front of the camera. D4 style thumb wheel for aperture (user definable)  Depth of field preview button, lens release. flash sync.
back of camera - Large screen super high resolution. LV button. Raw button. magnification button for review, Info button menu button. and a Classic button that takes you from color photography to Black and white back to color in one press.  all the other setting and hidden options and menus could be done with.
I think i would prefer it to have the D800E sensor. shoot Raw and Jpeg fine only. and hold two SD cards.  Nikon is close. they played it safe this time.

I'd rather D4 sensor for sure.  D800 sensor is only necessary for high end commercial work.  I'm still using the D3x sensor for my professional work.  Not one client of mine is looking for more resolution.  I think having low light shooting ability (like D4 sensor) is more valuable than resolution when you are doing walking around shooting, or shooting your kid on stage, or your family in a restuarant and other family type events.
