A big old pile of coal. Ugly to some maybe and a reminder of our burning of fossil fuel, climate change etc. But the guys who piled it here couldn't have made a more precise job of forming these ridges.

+Nathan Wirth has done me the great honour of featuring me in his Spotlight series. Nathan is a great supporter of other photographers as well as a great photographer himself. His site contains a feast of interviews and features.  Please take a look via the link below.

I've not posted here in a while, and I can't help getting the impression that it's not as active with many photographers. Maybe it's evolved into something else that's too generically promotional I don't know. Still I can't be sure so I'll share my latest for now.

#PlusOneCollectionIII

There's still time to submit to Plus One Collection III organised by +Ivan Makarov and +Andy Lee. The deadline has been extended to Wednesday March 19th as there was a problem uploading yesterday.

Now in it's third year, it's been a joy to contribute to the previous two and a pleasure to submit again this year.  I've gone for Drax in the "Our Creations" theme.

This is a great effort which helps people in real need. All the details about this year's project and how to submit are here

I was asked to contribute to Dodho magazine recently. I was pleased to submit some favourite images especially since I've had no time to get out with the camera recently. I think there are some great interviews and images in the magazine and it's well worth a look. Apologies for only publicising this when I don't have any new images to offer up.

Here's another of the Steetley jetty showing it's industrial origins.
Have a Happy New Year everyone and best wishes for 2014.

Steetley Jetty III

Cut adrift from the rest of the jetty, this really is a weird (and to me wonderful) sight in the middle of the beach.

Steetley Jetty II

It's been a while since I posted the first of these images but life has just got in the way recently. This was a challenging shot to get stepping closer to the end of this broken jetty than the wide angle would make it appear. Add to that a very strong wind at my back with gusts threatening to push me and the camera over the edge it was a long long exposure! I shielded the camera with my body and hoped the wind didn't get to it and create blur. If you're like me, you can't walk away from a shot like this though despite your concerns.

I'd also like to congratulate any of my contacts who had success with the Take A View competition in the UK. I've been lucky enough to get an image selected for the book and exhibited as a print at the National Theatre in London.

Steetley Jetty

One of a series of images of this old industrial jetty that served a nearby chemical plant. The series got an honourable mention in the recent IPA awards. Congratulations to everyone who got success at the IPA's I've really enjoyed looking through the images and there is a load of spectacular work there.
