Aurel Stein discovered the location of the Aornos Rock... or, perhaps, the best possibility for it. In between times, he travelled extensively in the far east. An exhibition dedicated to his work has opened in India. I wish I could go!

If you want to find his influence, just look all over the (ancient) world.

'Alexander wan't great' In fact, according to this writer, he was akin to Hitler and Stalin. The writer's argument is, of course, flawed, and I hope to write about it in the future.

Truth be told, it wasn't really much of a conference. Antipater turned up, managed to avoid getting mobbed, then told everyone what their new jobs were. A more exciting version of a cabinet reshuffle.

For the last few days I have been watching Michael Wood's 1985 documentary "In Search of the Trojan War"; it is a super programme, and I thoroughly recommend it. I have linked to Pt 5, which is my favourite episode yet. I love Wood 's documentaries, and seeing him in the street once is my claim to fame!

With the 11th Letter to Arrian, The Second Achilles is now a hundred posts old! It started as a Twitter Glossary, developed as the home of the Camp Notices, and has now diversified into my place to look at the life and times of Alexander from a number of different angles. More can always be done but I am very pleased with it.
